Synagogue and Jewish Memorial, Moscow
The building is located in the Poklonnaya Hill park in the heart of Moscow. Situated in the midst of an urban park, this symbol was created for the Jewish people of Moscow who fought with the Russians during the Second World War. We wished to create an abstract and simple building, yet one that would sustain a presence in the landscape. We refrained from introducing direct symbolism into the design, thereby allowing each visitor to have a different interpretation of the subject memorialized and encouraging a distinctly intimate experience.
