Makhteshim Agan, Ramat Hovav
MIXED USE AND OFFICE
The new building is located in Ramat Hovav, south of Israel, in an area noted for its desert landscape and climate. The building is conceived as a pure cube 36 x 36 m, two stories high with a double skin envelope and was claded with white concrete panels, accentuated horizontally by white aluminum "bull- nose" profiles, which evolve into horizontal "brise soleil" elements along the windows. The white presence stands out while blending into the desert landscape. The building projects simplicity, modesty, elegance and prominence.
The program called for two distinct functions: main dinning hall for the campus (300 users) including state of the art kitchen and service area and the campus administration and management offices. On the ground floor, facing east, the main offices entrance lobby was designed as a double space volume with free standing stairs that are floating in space. the spacious dinning hall, aligned along south and east generously glazed facades, allows for a views of the garden that surrounds the building. On the upper floor are the offices, organized around a central patio, a feature that communicates a feeling of openness and light.
