Swimming Pool, Technion, Haifa
PUBLIC & EDUCATION
The building is located at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology – campus in Haifa.
The swimming pool is part of a master plan for the sports facilities on campus. The building is composed of two volumes – the covered Olympic swimming pool and the locker room facilities building.
Designing an indoor Olympic swimming pool requires bridging large spans. In this case, the structural solution enhanced the architecture – the covering is made of a series of pre-cast concrete elements, each in the form of a three-hinged arch. This solution created an elegant, slender, and fluent structure
